Full Version: Lame -c copyright tag?

Hi

Does anyone know how the -c copyright tag in Lame works?
It isn't listed in the included docs.

Does it simply add a tag saying the music is copyright, or are you supposed to add a comment after the '-c'?

Also if you look at an mp3's properties in WinXP, they have a 'Protected' section, which usually says 'No'. If you right click it says 'Indicates whether the file is restricted by a licence' - as mp3s don't have DRM is this connected to the copyright tag above?

Only, I've made an mp3 with Lame using the -c tag, but this still says 'No'

So now I'm a bit confused unsure.gif

I'd be grateful for any tips or pointers smile.gif

Thanks

it's an old mp3 flag, nobody and no application I know uses it in any way.

The "copyright" and "protected" flags are distinct from each other but neither serve any real or (nowadays) relevant purposes.

Same goes for the emphasis flag. I haven't seen any player which takes that flag into consideration, although I have some files with emphasis bit set ("Dire Straits - Alchemy (Live)" for example uses 50/15 µs emphasis because the original CD also had the emphasis bit set).

Ah, ok, then I can safely ignore it/ them.

Thanks for the info!

Cheers
