Hi there,

I use different playlists to organize my albums. Each playlist will be an album. I do this because it's easy to arrange albums and lists on the screen without modifying actual folder and directory structure. But, I can't seem to find a way to find a playback mode that will select any playlist and play a random song. That way, I don't have to listen to 1 album without manually switching.

Is there such function?

Thanks.

Question, so you want to shuffle within that album or do you want it so that it plays only one song from a playlist and then play another song from another playlist?

You could try foo_uie_albumlist or foo_playlist_tree.

I've all albums in a list I can choose from, the root will display all songs.

It will create a new playlist and reuse that one if you like each time you choose an album.
You can do that with booth, plylist tree is a little more powerful, you can make other queries, like all with rating or playcount.

Hi IOsiris, your latter answer is what I want to do, play random songs from random playlists, wihtout putting the playlists together. I can shuffle within a playlist with no problem using the "shuffle(tracks)" option now.

Really what Andreasvb said is what you want to do, its what I do as well. I have a giant 'all music' playlist, and then use foo_uie_albumlist using the artist mode will allow you to separate the list for individual artists.
