My mate getting married and we are basically going to play mp3's through laptops and mp3 players, my concern is that they are at all different volume levels. I have done a search on this forum and have got a few different threads and wondered if they still held true.

The top thread discusses using MP3Gain to volume level albums, is this what people recommend. I mean to say all I require is that the tracks are all levelled so a bunch of drunk people percieve they are the right volume.

Is it possible with this software to stick a hundred random tracks in and get the to the right sort of volume level

Yes, mp3gain in Track gain mode is what you want.

Those mp3 files with play with the same perceived loudness both on the laptop and the mp3 players.

Optionally, if you don't want to directly modify the mp3 files, you can Replaygain them with foobar2000. The volume differences will be stored in tags, and the actual mp3 data remains unchanged. Those files will play with the same perceived loudness on the laptop, using foobar2000. But as the hardware mp3 players don't support RG tags, they will not play them back with the same perceived loudness.

So yeah, mp3gain in Track gain mode seems to be ideal for you. wink.gif
