Hi

I wanna know if the vorbisgain works like the MP#Gain, changing the volume of the file, not only writing a tag.

Thanks in advance

No. It writes to tags, and as far as I know, direct stream gain manipulation is not possible with Vorbis.

Is there a software that does this feature? (Apply the Replay Gain in an OggVorbis file)

thanks

Why do you need this? Every decoder is able to use the information in the tags to change the volume.

I'm building my own player (using delphi + fmod), but I wanna change the volume before playing...

Er, maybe I'm missing something, but why modify the file for a player?

I doubt that. For example upcoming Ogg Vorbis support on iRiver portable players, do you believe that Vorbisgain support is required by decoder specs ?

Read the VorbisGain tags and alter the volume on-the-fly. That's what VorbisGain aware players do.

If you don't want to do that, use WaveGain on the original wave file before encoding.

I asked this once before too. I wasn't concerned about software players but about hardware players such as the iRiver. As Hanky asked, is this part of the decoder spec? And using WaveGain is kind of a pain when you are ripping off of CD.

VorbisGain is not part of the decoder spec and will probably never be in its current form because the main Vorbis devs don't approve of the way it's currently handled. They want Vorbis Comments to be used for human-readable data only; to support Replay Gain the way they would like it (i.e., to store the gain information in the file header) would, AFAIK, require a change to the structure of the Vorbis header or something like that.

Remember, VorbisGain is actually more or less a "hack". That's not to say one shouldn't use it though wink.gif
