Full Version: Question regarding equalising the volume of music.

Hi. I've recently been making a collection of all the soundtrack music from the tv show Lost for personal use. And for that, I thought "well, I'll extract all the music from the 5.1 mix, so I can for example cancell out the vocals. Well, that worked great and the front left and right speakers had the soundtrack in nice stereo (with additional series-accompagnied noise like sea waves and the wind going through the trees and stuff). But there's a problem. You see, as good as the separation in the 5.1 mix is, there's a problem with the sound. The volume of the sound variates constantly, resulting in a very audible "volume goes up", "volume goes down"-issue.

Here's an mp3 of what I'm talking about:

Is there any way that you can automatically equalise the volume of the music, so that it'll be on a constant volume?

Thanks.

I think that's what the producers intended, and would leave the sound as-is.

If you still want to level the volume on-the-fly, take a look at:

I agree 100%, that's how it should sound. When the performer stops bowing a stringed instrument the volume of the sound will naturally fade just like in the sample you posted.
