Hi Forum

It seems that my drive (Plextor PX-708A) often reverts to PIO mode, when I rip scratched CD's. I'm not really sure if it happens in Burst or Accurate Stream mode only, but i'd really like to know if it was possible to change back to DMA without a reboot.

I already know of this page, but it seems that all the solutions require reboot.

I looked in PlexTools, and it doesn't allow me anything, but are stuck on 8xCAV.

Any suggestions?

I suggest you read this through. I'm sure, you'll find a solution there... wink.gif

EDIT: Oops... you want a solution without having to reboot... What about just logging off and logging back in?

Or you can uninstall and install the device in device manager.

Let me guess - your OS is Windows? As I know there is no way.
However there is another way to solve this. (I had such problems often after CD burning.)

Windows does go in PIO mode when it detects IDE port, IDE cable or CD drive works unstable. As you know Windows often can be wrong. So:
1. Run 'regedit'
2. Find HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdfs\
3. Change 'ErrorControl' key to '0' instead of '1'
4. Do the same for the second controler
5. Delete your IDE controllers
6. Reboot

I am using this tweak for about 2 years and never had problems, however USE IT ON YOUR OWN RISK.

I just thought. Maybe you have to first delete IDE controllers and reboot first and then change the key.

Whatever that switch are for, it's NOT to prevent fallback to PIO!!!
