Anyone tried Firefox Beta 2?

Screencap, perhaps ?

Anyways, what's so different with Ffx 1.5.0.6 ?
for users who are currently using the windows classic theme, firefox's new theme just plain sucks. it looks horrible.
on a side note, i've also heard that the new beta uses up to 50% more memory than 1.5

Thanks for the screenshots kwanbis. I don't like both of the themes, but my favorite iFox is also available for FF2

The only thing I like about the Beta is the bigger search box.

The earlier beta and the alphas before it were prone to crashing on my end; I don't know why.
The new beta is just as stable as 1.5.0.x. I don't like the look of the tab bar, but I prefer the 2.0 RSS handler.

IIRC there's a plugin for 1.5.x that provide a way to resize the search box. But I don't use it, so I don't know what it's called.

If you want to do it without installing extensions, create userChrome.css in your profile\chrome directory.
CODE
/*
* Do not remove the @namespace line -- it's required for correct functioning
*/
@namespace url("http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul"); /* set default namespace to XUL */
.searchbar-textbox {
width: 110px !important;
}
----
Oops, I thought you disliked the big search box. You actually like it.

Oh well.

someone on some other forums told me that. i doubt that it's true but it could be. but then again, it will be a long time before something will make me switch to Firefox.

I haven't done any extensive testing, and I don't trust the task manager, but the numbers in task manager for "Memory" and "VM Size" do look higher in beta 2 compared to 1.5.0.6.
I'm happy with beta 2, though, because I prefer to have "tab close" buttons on individual tabs.

that function has been there for ages via the Tab_X extension.

FF2 has much, much less memory leaks. I know cause i have the mem leak detector running, and before b1, i had leaks like 50 times a day. Now i have 1/2 a day at most.

I know. When I was a fan of Galeon, I loved that feature, but when I moved to Firefox I mostly forgot about it.
The Firefox 2.0 alphas brought it back, and I fell in love with it again. When I moved back to Firefox 1.5.0.x, I installed that extension.

Now I don't have to. Yay!

Another thing I like about b2: in Korea, there are a lot of RSS links (<link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" title="rss" blahblahblah />) that lead to a "permission denied" page. (Don't ask me why.)
Firefox 1.5 used to allow subscribing to such bad feeds. Firefox 2.0 beta 2 now shows you the error page instead of letting you subscribe to it.

Opera. it's the only web browser that suits me. i've also customized it a lot allowing it to use google suggest and IE

. but when i want to go to some website where Opera isn't supported(Google Labs's new stuff), i use K-Meleon because i hate big resource usage.

I used to use Opera... but then have to cry out loud when I found out no one else supported its mailbox.
Leter I decided to use Firefox. A lot cleaner for me. All-in-one wannabees nowadays make me irk (brrr... I recall Norton Systemworks...)
Now I got 200MB worth of mailbox locked in the Opera mailbox...

... can anyone tell me how to import it into Thunderbird?
i don't know if Opera Webmail supports POP3 so if it doesn't, then you might not be in luck. i like Opera better because it has a cleaner interface while Firefox has it's stupid XUL.

Any decent e-mail program should be able to export mailboxes in the *nix mbox format. You can just copy mbox files into Thunderbird's profile directory.
Firefox 2.0b2 chugging along fine here. I'm lazy to take memory data, but Firefox 2 has only crashed once on me so far (third-party plugin as usual), and even then it restored my crashed session perfectly.

My copy was updated to 2.0 RC1 (shows up as 2.0 in the credits) through the semi-automatic upgrade feature. A popup came up asking if I wanted to upgrade, then it downloaded some stuff and asked me if I wanted to restart the browser.
The tab bar looks a lot better now.

But it's still "RC" ... I'd rather wait until RC2 at least.
For me, RC still equals beta. Only in a nicer name
kwanbis
Sep 27 2006, 16:21
no, its not. RC means that if there are no major issues, it becomes final.
pepoluan
Sep 27 2006, 16:24
Yeah, I know. That's what "RC" supposed to mean.
However in my experience, RC1's are still beta's. Or more properly, gold-beta's.
That said, I have to reiterate that RC2's are usually okay with me

actually, there is a native setting for this in firefox 2. its on the very top of the main preferences tab. i think it may be about time for you so consider switching.

as for me, i've been contemplating switching to iceweasel. when icewesel is up to 2.0, i plan to.
