Full Version: New EAC user: badly stuttering tracks

I have just started using EAC/LAME in the last few days. I've managed to puzzle through many of my initial questions, but this is probably going to be the first of several posts on things I'm still having trouble with. Thanks in advance for your help.

I have been surprised how many errors EAC is finding. The last thing I copied took over an hour and a half on a single track! That wouldn't be so bad if the final result was clean, but when it was was finally done, I went to listen to the track and check the suspicious positions, and the last few minutes stuttered terribly. I re-did it in fast mode, and it was done in a couple seconds with no clicks or anything that I've noticed so far. I've had similar problems with a couple other tracks, too. I get a LOT of things with read/synch errors--sometimes not noticable on listening, sometimes with bad problems like this. To look at my CDs you would not expect them to have so many errors.

I followed the instructions in the Wiki for setting EAC up, so hopefully I got that right. The drive is a Samsung CD-R/RW SW-252S. The settings I have when it's in secure mode are "Drive has 'Accurate Stream' Feature" and "Drive caches audio data" checked, and the drive read command "Read command MMC 1." I haven't touched anything on the other tabs.

The other drive is an NEC DVD+-RW ND-3530A, but I've been using the Samsung. I gather neither of these is a particularly good choice, but that's what I have.

Is this just the result of poor quality drives? Or could I have some setting wrong? Bear in mind I'm new at this, so use your best "talking to a 3-year-old voice." Thanks.

What happens if you switch from Secure mode to Burst mode and then try Test & Copy (F6)?
