Full Version: question about copyright (not the LAME tag)

I'd like to know if anyone knows an appropriate forum (unless here on hydrogen audio is the place) to inquire about copyright and things like that.

For example, I want to know what I need 2 do when I want 2 make, say, 1000 copies of an audio recording, and don't know who the copyright holder is, or I want to make one copy each of, say, 15 songs or so, each owned by a different owner.

In either case, I'm willing to either pay the royalty fees (which I understand currently is 9.1 cents or 1.75 cents per minute of playing time or fraction thereof, whichever is greater) for whatever it is I want to copy.

In one particular case (where I want to make 1 copy of about 15 songs, and in this case I don't know who the copyright holders are), I'd like to have a friend of mine (an audio engineer btw) make some copies of some songs for me that he has. (I asked him a couple weeks ago and he said he didn't want to cause of copyright issues.) I would like to be able (even if I send a payment to the copyright office instead of the actual artists - this would make it a little easier on me if I could pay one source in this particular case instead of several different entities) to take care of the copyright royalty payment concerns.

Any suggestions on what I could do to resolve this?
Egor
