Full Version: Getting Tags From A Cue File

Using a cue sheet to split a large mp3 file in Direct Wav Mp3 Splitter, is it possible for the tags to be written automaticlly from the data contained within the cue sheet?

Also, is there a better way of achieving this and if so how?

pcutmp3 is worth a look. I know nothing about Direct Wav Mp3 Splitter.

IIRC pcutmp3 will write ID3v1 tags, but you can always convert or expand these to ID3v2 with foobar, or some other tagger (e.g.: Mp3tag).

Please read the thread. Best used with foobar IIRC, as it requires a player that reads and heeds LAME tags properly.

Thanks for your help. I'm going to wait for further replies first, but if no joy, I'll follow your advice.

It seems strange that my splitter will read track time data from a cue sheet (to enable it to effect the split) but not artist, album and track title.

I've just contacted the software supplier (PistonSoft) to see whether they have an answer to this. I will post back with the response.

I'd also recommend pcutmp3, the only accurate MP3 cutter I know that writes LAME tags.

In case your tags are truncated (since only ID3v1 tags are written), you can use foobar to copy all tags from one group of files to another. Just add the .cue and the cut .mp3s to your playlist, select all tracks, right-click on the selection and click Tagging/Copy info between files.

Thanks for that. I'll see what PistonSoft come up with first.

Cheers, db.

Load the cue sheet in foobar2000, then queue up the MP3s. Now you can copy the CD-TEXT from the cue sheet to the MP3s' ID3 tags (Masstager -> Copy Tags).

Thanks for that, sounds like a good option.

Quick update, I've asked the developers at Direct WAV MP3 Splitter would they be interested in installing a new feature on the next version. In other words, you'd open a cue sheet which defines a path to the file to be split from one large mp3. The program would proceed to split the file and add tags from the cue sheet. I think that's pretty cool.

They think it's cool too. If all goes according to plan, it'll be out within a few months.
