Still, please do help tongue.gif

Hi, this is my first post here, but I'm a long time user of foobar2000 and I've looked over here more than enough times smile.gif

I'll be blunt; I'm looking for a portable audio player. Here are the specs I want:

(*** is what i like to be standard; * is liked, but not necessary)

*** Has quite large space (at LEAST 20 GB)
*** Can play OGG, possibly FLAC, MP3 (others if possible too)
*** Good quality
* Good customizing options
* Long battery life

Now, I think I've heard that the iPod Video 60 GB can be hacked to play OGG with some kind of Linux OS. Please do link all the necessary files and installations that are needed. I have no experience with hacking an iPod also, so a guide of some sort would also be nice. If it's already here, then my bad (><) and please do just simply link to it.

Thanks!

P.S.: If there is any question on something, please do ask.

I am very happy with my rockboxed (what you call hacked) ipod nano. Installation was neat and easy and I can play all my ogg files gaplessly. You could also install it on bigger ipods: http://www.rockbox.org/

Yes rockbox is good. I have it on my ihp-140. Don't associate it with linux. It can be used by ordinary people. You have download some files and copy them over and that is it.

Another vote for a rockboxed iriver H120/H140.

- Can play almost everything (except of DRM'ed files, or WMA)
- great quality
- customizable (new HD, new Battery, firmware with a lot of options...)

If you don't want to go with this player (it's not manufactured anymore...) get a player that supports Rockbox.

iRiver is the best choice now.
But it's hard to find a portable player that can play He-AACv2 , WMAPro and OGG for me (except PPC crying.gif ).

Take a look at the iAUDIO X5L. It has a 30GB HDD and plays MP3, OGG, WMA, ASF, FLAC, and WAV.

I'm very happy with the iAudio X5V 20GB. If you don't need radio it's slightly cheaper than the X5 model.

I belive there is a X5VL model with extended battery life, but it's bigger.

What are the differences between X5 and X5V? Apart from the radio function, is the baterry life in X5 longer than in X5V or are they about the same? Also, are there any limitations in X5V regarding Rockbox?
I'm thinking about purchasing a X5V, since I can't find a X5L anywhere and I don't care the slightest about radio.
JunkieXL
The X5L or X5VL are the ones with extended battery life. The X5 and X5V just have a few differences in the players features.

edit: Look here for X5L or just go to google and type iaudio x5

Thanks for replying.
I've looked around for the X5L and couldn't find any online store that would post it to Portugal, whereas the X5V was for sale on the store just around the corner, so I bought that one instead.
