If someone wants to play *.ape files with Winamp, he had to download the whole 3 MB package of Monkey's Audio yet, because the input plugin offered on Winamp's own site only recognizes *.mac files and seems to be very outdated (v2.60 against the newest v3.97).

The following link provides all necessary elements from the complete Windows package if you only need an input plugin for Winamp or a filter for CoolEdit, a command line encoder is also available:

I know it's a little late, but I'd still like to thank you for that. smile.gif I have never bothered to download the latest MAC package because of the large download (well... at least for a crappy 56K modem).

I guess the thanks have to go to Destroid (also a registered user here) who created this site. In fact there seems to have been some troubles/complaints instead about his site not being reachable anymore etc., but this is just the way it goes... dry.gif See the thread on the Monkey's Audio forum:

There is also an older thread where someone else offers the Winamp plugin of v3.97 and v3.96 (but not the CoolEdit filter or the command line codec), too:

If you want a smaller file for downloading monkey's audio winamp plugin, you can always download CDex, the plugin's always been there there tongue.gif

Thanks hans-jürgen. I guess the real thanks goes to Matt for making Monkey's Audio.

I think my website experiment shows that people would like to grab a single small file for their needs rather than d/l the big install package. I was looking for such a thing myself once. smile.gif
