It you're wondering, what's "random shuffle" mode, look around
main random discussing thread.

So you are saying that the order in shuffle mode is not random, but deterministic? How can I reproduce that?
In shuffle(tracks) mode, after every restart of fb2k and forcing to start at track 1, it chose a different track to continue.

every restart of fb2k
Why must i restart application for it to work properly? My comp works 24/7 and i don't want to restart fb2k

? I was describing my testing method. I can't see why we need a "random shuffle mode". I ask again: are you saying a) shuffling in fb2k behaves deterministic and b) how to reproduce that?

a) Yes. It looks like the playback order is determined on program startup / playlist creation.
b) Enable Shuffle (track). Play track A, hit Next to switch to a random track B. Start to play track A and hit Next again. You will end up listening to the same track B as before.
Play some song, Write down its name.
Write down few songs thats after that song.
Play the #1 song again... U'll hear whole sequence of songs again.
Thats annoing. YES for Random Mode.

True. The thread starter has my vote.

is there anyway we can have a simple advanced shuffle, that can do pure random (1/%_playlist_count% chance of the same song playing twice) as well as a shuffle that plays a ranomized playlist in order (like current shuffle track) but that reorders the list at the end, or upon manually starting a new track (or maybe advanced options).
[x] Reshuffle playlist when track changes manually and at end of playlist
[x] Enable Shuffle (Random) mode that is like 0.8.3 random
thats my thoughts

Then the same thing will happen again when people starts wondering whats the difference between Shuffle and Random. It really isn't that big of a deal

The problem here is the version .9 SDK doesn't allow a developer to implement a "true random mode" like version 8.3 SDK did. I don't mind that Peter doesn't want to add "true random mode" into Foobar or even add it as an official component (which I think is the best idea), but at least let a 3rd party developer create one.
Today's shuffle should be replaced with new shuffle ('random shuffle' or 'non-repeative shuffle), because new shuffle is better anyway. personally, i don't care about 'true random mode'. Still, 'true random' is easier to implement, so i guess it is 'true random' that will be implemented (if my feature request will be satisfied at all).

In addition to true randomness, I'd love to see a shuffle that allows customizable thresholds, such as the number of tracks that should be played before selecting a particular artist again. I've used Python scripts to implement this in the past, but I'd prefer a more configurable shuffle mode in FB2K.
Im waiting for new beta with Random and Repeat Album mode... ;(

Theres a HUGE diffrence(*rance?). I love few songs, i play one than just listen to anything goes. Than i remind that song again, play it again and i'm forced to listen bunch of songs AGAIN if i wont just change it >_> Boo, i want a random mode.

You could use playback queue in that example.

Well, my solution for randomizing is to add a "Randomizer" column containing simply $rand(). If I need the order of the song to be randomized, I just click on the column's heading. Voila! Randomness

See my "foobar2000 looks" for more sample. It's in the Upload section somewhere...

foobar drive me nut with shuffle mode (tracks) . i often use shuffle mode and after listening for 5-10 tracks I choose I track that I want to listen again , then I have only 2 choices:
- listen to the whole sequence again
- next next next until recognise the last track in the "shuffle" sequence .
I need only 1 choice ! A true RAMDOM.

Yeah I think there is finally enough support now to get "random mode" implemented into Foobar; we need random!
Shuffle mode is ok, but some people need random...

I'd like this, it annoys me quite often. But it's not top priority. A good idea would be to give more weight to (artists/albums) with less tracks, so every (artist/album) would have an equal chance of being selected.

Pfft, it should be number one on Peter's list...

...it's extremely critical...
M-m-m-m....Any progress here?
