MAYAH® Communications has developed the first AAC-Recorder in software for professional and consumer use.

- Records and stores AAC coded formats.
- Allows wav, BWF inputs.
- Fully software, no additional hardware necessary.
- For Windows 95, 98 and NT
- Realtime on fast Pentium III or offline on smaller machines

Just download the demo version and get an impression about this great tool to make your audio files sound better and transport easier.

Any idea how it works?
The demo doesn't allow wav-import, no drag'n drop, line-in recording or anything else here. (Win98SE).

no release for Unix system ?

No, haven't downloaded it yet (how big is this package, by the way?)... But there's an AAC FAQ and even a forum on their website, so maybe you'll find an answer there. smile.gif

If that's the old Mayah demo from 1999, than I can say it is completely useless for offline encoding - it supports only input from recording device, and the quality of encoder is not so good at all.

Well, here's the FAQ for version 3:
Which functions does the AAC recorder support?
    · Recording and play back of AAC files.

Can I adjust bit and sampling rates individually?
    · Yes, under menu item 'Settings' different bit and sampling rates can be selected.

    Which operating sytems are supported?
    · Windows 95/98/2000/NT

    Which hardware is required?
    · We recommend Pentium II or III processors with min. 400 MHz.

How can I adjust the recording level?
    · In Windows audio mixer under menu item <options/properties/recording/source>.

How can I adjust the play level?
    · In Windows audio mixer under wave.

Which audio quality can be achieved?
    · You can achieve joint stereo (15 kHz) at a bit rate of 64 kbit/sec
    · You can achieve transparent stereo (20 kHz) at a bit rate of 128 kbit/sec

And the download page describes it as following:
Free of charge download of MAYAH AAC 3.0 demo version.
This demo version supports the control of MAYAH CENTAURI Audio Gateways.

I don't know if this means that you have to be a user of their Centauri hardware package in order to try out the AAC recorder or if this "control" is only an additional feature.
