Full Version: Lowpass frequencies for different VBR-settings

So, I'm doing a project in a statistics course I'm taking, and I have decided on doing a factorial experiment for quality of Lame-encoded MP3s at approximately 64 kbps.

I'm going to use different settings to encode the MP3s for thereafter to test the quality.

What I need to know is the lowpass frequencies for the different VBR-settings. A list of options which are included (albeit hidden) in the (-V n --vbr-new)-option in the encoder would also be appreciated.

If you have suggestions for what options to test, please add them to your post.

I was thinking of testing ABR 64 with options vs. V 9 --vbr-new with options.
I'm also considering VBR vs. CBR, but that may perhaps not be as interesting.

Easy way: Encode with lame.exe using the command prompt. It will tell you the lowpass.

Easy way2: Monitor the spectrum with something like Analfreq 1.8 while the track is playing.

Also, I think there is a list of the lowpass frequency for the VBR modes someplace on this forum... but I can't seem to locate it right now.

Have fun with your test smile.gif

Hmm...

There are errors in that table in V4 thru V6. lame 3.97 tells different values. Are someone want to correct that table? smile.gif
