Q96: When will the name be changed again? A96: Maybe never. The extension "MP+" had made a lot of trouble (not allowed under DOS, not allowed on CD-ROMs without RR or joliet extension. And "MPEGplus" contains the problematic item "MPEG" which is owned by the MPEG committee.
So, .mpc it is!

Practically the only confusion about Musepack's file extension is that the encoder is still named mppenc.exe
How about changing it to mpcenc.exe during the next decade or so? I'm tired of using 'ren' (or 'mv' for you *nix freaks) for each new release

AFAIK, it will be renamed to mpcenc/mpcdec when the first "true" SV8 encoder/decoder comes out.

This has to be the most one-sided poll ever posted here

Do you suppose the current title of the poll ("Extension for MPC?") is influencing votes? Or would it have come out the same if the prompt read, "Extension for MusePack?"

Was there ever a need for this? MusePack = MPC simple as that.
