Full Version: Making the switch from Mediamonkey

So, I've recently installed Foobar w/ Kernel Streaming and have been enjoying the sound much more than MediaMonkey w/ ASIO (via ASIO4ALL). Now I'm thinking of making the switch, but foobar's interface is the only thing holding me back. It'd be PERFECT if I could get it set up the same way I have MM set up.

Could anyone help me in this process? Here's a screenshot of my current setup:

I mainly want Foobar to have a "Now Playing" window the way MM does in the upper left. With a separate window below that displays the library. I find this the most useful when I want to go through my library and edit/delete things. This way I don't mess up the playlist (now playing list) while I am browsing/editting. I'm not concerned with color/skins at the moment.

Also, I really like the display tree in Mediamonkey, so if there's any way to get one like that in Foobar I'd like to know.

I've figured out how to get the album art where I want it, but can foobar read/store album art in ID3 tags like MM can?

Search for "columns ui", "track info mod", and maybe foo_playlist_tree for the left column.

edit: and "album art panel"

For the moment, covers must be a specific file not contained in the tags.

Exactly why I went with Mediamonkey to begin with. smile.gif

Thanks for the tips everyone! Once I get a free day to mess around with this I will.
Paws
Well, hopefully some one can explain this... or this must be difficult and not many have done this??/

You should be okay if you follow those instructions. So nothing happens when you hit the Apply button? Close will also work, but then you have to go back into Prefs.
Paws
have no clue what you mean by, apply button? Will a Screen shot inside my Foobar prefrences help?

Preferences > Display > ColumsUI then choose Layout tab. That's where you set your layout, as per that web page. When you click Apply, the layout should change.

Paws
I see what you're talking about now, but apply what?

I also made the switch from MM and foobar has every important function of MM except for one: in MM, u can tag (e.g. change artist ) if u double-click or use F2.

afaik foobar doesnt have this function sad.gif Ull have to go to properties and change everything there..

Columns UI has this feature, enable 'inline metafield editing' under Playlist View->General and then set the tag to modify for each column under columns.

You can then click twice, or press F2 to modify a field. Tab moves across by one field to the right. Enter saves the values you've entered.

It has in 0.9.x with ColumnUI. Go in Preferences->Display->ColumnUI->Playlist View in the General Tab there's "Mouse Activated inline metafield editing mode" chose a mode you like. Before you ask, the different between Windows mode and ColumnUI mode is when you have selected a bunch of files and u select one among them with ColumnUI mode it will select, with Windows mode it will activate edit mode.

One more thing you need to change for it to work is go in the Columns Tab and select the column and define its matching field to edit in Metafield to edit textbox. Eg. with album column you might want to use ALBUM for Metafield to edit textbox.

Thnx, it works GREAT cool.gif
