I have some Koss Sparkplugs, but they sound sorta muffled (if there's something I'm doing wrong, please enlighten me). I'm looking for something with a good range of frequencies (crisp treble, but fairly powerful deep bass), but at a good price. I've heard good things about sennheisers. Also quite loud.

Currently using iPod headphones, and I think the quality has degraded since I've been listening to drum&bass on full volume for days sad.gif

Thanks ! <3

Sony MDR-EX71. Sennheiser has a lot of cable noise, Sony doesn't, and they are cheaper. Only disadvantage, is that the cable wires (inside) breaks after a while at least on the black model, the white is rumoured to be better.

I listened to my mate's sony headphones, they look like 71's (might not have been, most probably were), and I really hated them. The sound sounded all crushed up into the midtones :/

I agree that the mids are a little too boosted, but you get used to it, and for the prize it's okay.

Does anyone have any experience with Creative Aurvana earbuds and/or Shure E2C in comparison to EX71? Especially with bass in particular. I don't wanna spend a fortune on earbuds which might (/not) be comfortable to me. I've seen a lot of critics of the Shure and the Creative looks like it. Also I think they are too expensive.

I can get Senheiser MX550s or CMX300's. Are they better?

I played with my mate's 71's (they were) and listened to some different music.

For music which is simple and has obvious instruments like synthpop and electronic stuff they sound pretty cool (lacking bass on some things though), however on more crowded things like Hardcore (eg norma jean) they were intolerable and I much prefered the balanced softness of my iPod headphones.

The creative 71's just sounded like their drive or whatever was small. I didn't like this.

Naughty toolej! Considered IEMs? I'm not sure if there are any around your price range though.

Edit: Ah drat, I didn't realise you just mentioned the Sennheisers in your post above.

I haven't tried either of these Senns. What I have is the Sony EX-71 and the Creative EP-630. I much prefer the EP-630 over the EX-71 - to me they seem to have better bass (less boomy) and for it is worth, more soundstage. Highs are less shrill too.

Over at Head-Fi, the folks seems to think the CX300 are a great pair of phones. There are supposed to be better than the Creative EP-630, but it will depend on what price you can get them for to decide whether it is worthwhile. In Hong Kong, the EP-630 is nearly half the price of the CX300 - don't think the CX300 is twice as good though.

Also there are alot of new Senn models. There is a PMX70 sports that is supposed to sound somewhat like a PX100. I have a feeling that the PMX70 and the MX70 probably are the same buds with a different design. The MX55 street is also supposed to be very good.

Isn't the Sennheiser CX300 and Creative EP-630 the same phone sold under different brandname ?
Recently i was thinking about getting an EP630 too, but finally i've decided for a Panasonic HNJ50, cause it seems to be more durable and some people on Head-fi recommend it. It should arrive in two weeks, i'm curious...

Same outer shell, different drivers, or what you call it, inside. They are both made the same factory it seems.
