Editing a post in Replaygain "Scan Selection As Albums (by tags)" groups by Artist not Album with MP3 files
After running Scan Selection As Albums by Tags on these files, they should all have the same REPLAYGAIN_ALBUM values, no? I've tried re-tagging these files with ID3v2.4 and APEv2 but it's made no difference. FLAC and Ogg files seem fine.

Wings of Hope [Dragon Spirit - Area 01] Rolando [Sho] Brave Heart ~ Dragon Spirit & Dragon Saber Arrange -4.95 dB -5.18 dB
I think that's because it also looks at the album artist when seeing if it belongs to the same album.
Do the tracks have the same album artist?

If you don't want to tag your files with album artists, you can also change the album grouping pattern to remove "%album artist%" under the "Advanced" section of preferences.
or you can just select the album and brute force "Scan as single album".

... and use $meta(tagname), then you know exactly what it's doing.

That track list came from an MP3Tag export. I'll look into exactly which tags are being written here.

%album artist% was null for all those tags. I'm curious why the grouping list %album artist% | %date% | %album% ended up sorting by artist at all. However, it looks like just removing %album artist% from the grouping will do the trick for me. I have a lot of multi-artist soundtracks with no notion of %album artist% unless you count the arranger.
Thanks for the tips.

Having %album artist% as the first choice for grouping albums isn't a good default setting if it will remap to %artist%. At the very least it's counter-intuitive.

No its not, its convenient. If you don't want remapping, use $meta(album artist)
