I am working on Mp3 decoder. I was refering the code made from Javazoom Jlayer1.0 . I have couple of doubts about the concepts in Mp3. I hope people who know what those are can give me some ideas and clarity my questions.

1. What is scalefac_compress ?? The definition of it is "selects the number of bits used for the transmission of the scalefactors". Suppose scalefac_compress=4, and block_type=1. It means slen1=3 and slen2=0. In this case, Slen1 is length of scalefactors for the scalefactor bands 0 to 10 and slen2 will be length from bands 11 to 20. Does slen1=3 means only 3 bits for band0 to band10 , and 0 bits used in slen2 ??

2. What is sblimit and sslimit ?? I saw those terms in stereo calculation. Can somebody provide me any of examples what those are ??
