You go under File>>Preferences>>File Types
When you need a program to open a file type for you, use the File types tab in Folder Options in Control Panel. This is the general way. For foobar it has a built in file types register in Foobar Preferences->File Types.
hi. ty. i know that. I want it so that i can pop a cd in and windows will ask me what audio player to play.. in the old foobar2000 without columns ui, this worked. but i cant figure it out now.

Hi Paws,
This has caught me a few times.
Try "Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs/Set Program Access and Defaults".
You either want to use Non-Windows or Custom - I can't remember which.
If that doesn't work, then just reply as I'm sure there was something else I needed to do when using a MM keyboard.
Cheers,

On my computer, Foobar's Preferences->File Types-> Check "Set as default CD player" works.
Thanks c0utta, and deepdose and thuan. I knew it was here somewheres lol, i can't believe i didnt see it before.

ut, it failed lol... atleast i know where to select it at... but now when i put in a cd even after a reboot, it still ask, what i want but only shows windows media player, or take no action....
On my old gateway .8.3 plays the cd automatically.
Looking at your answer I don't know if you've solved it or not. First you say that you did it later you say that it failed. Did you try what I mentioned in my previous post?

I remembered the other thing I needed to do to get CD's recognised by foobar - I had to remove associations within Windows Media Player, then run the foobar associations and then "Set as default CD player" as suggested by thuan.
If that doesn't work then I'm out of options!
I have NO WMP on my computer (yeah you heard me right I remove it from the moded XP CD) so maybe you have to do what c0utta said.
