Are there any problems foobar users have encountered when upgrading to vista? If so which plugins are the cause of this?

I know that foobar2000 itself and (due to a recent update) foo_columns are compatible with vista but I'd like to know your thoughts and experiences in upgrading your OS so myself and any other upgraders know what to do about this.

Thank you
nilsHaus
Off Topic but if you're upgrading to Vista I recommend a clean install, I hear that upgrading results in HORRENDOUS performance issues...

I hope someone can do a plugin that will work with the windows sidebar.

I've been using foobar with windows vista for more than a month now. Components need to be compiled with the newest SDK or they will cause foobar to malfunction. All the components I use are working fine now under windows vista:

Well besides I have a slight refresh-problem with singlecolumn (or maybe it's columnsui's fault?) it works okay in RC2. I haven't noticed if the general performance are slower than XP, but it would not be THAT big a difference wink.gif
musosticky
I was experiencing the same refresh problem back on XP but it isnt that much of a worry....

I agree with nilHaus on the clean install issue (I have a dual boot set up right now) and i moved my foobar directory over to the vista partition and it wouldnt even open the exe......it seems that vista handles a lot of program's installation in different ways.

My girlfriend's broadband has just gone down so I may have a few days to repopulate my wonderful foobar setup sad.gif But its worth going back to XP every once n a while to use it.

Thanks to coppertop for the component list.....exactly what i had in mind.....with regard to developers have you any plans to update your plugins for vista use? If so, many thanks.
bellavite
My foobar in Vista crash very often... on a clean setup. I think it's foo_browser 1.2.2c... and I'd like to see Segoe UI 9pt, not Tahoma 8pt smile.gif

I don't use this component myself, you could ask in the component thread if there is anyone who knows if it should work with Vista.

And what do you mean about the fonts? Where would you like to see them?

Sure, thanks, I'll do that when I've a bit more time to understand my crashes... For now I can only say that with the same config on XP I never had so many crashes.
We need to unify a Vista-thread, someone is reporting the same issues I have here.

BTW that's my config (i started it from scratch to understand which plugin is causing my problems)

I'd like only to see Segoe UI 9pt istead of Tahoma 8pt, why that's the new way Microsoft follows for system fonts (ok, not so important). Sometimes components developers use Tahoma instead the "MS Shell Dlg" font too.
saivert
The foo_browser component is flawed and does not run perfectly under Windows VIsta. I had to remove it (not that I use it that much anyway, only for my iTunes-like Columns setup).

We need to nag the foo_browser developer and request an update, or maybe some other developer can do it if the sources are available (I didn't bother to check when writing this).

It must be a requirement to always use the latest version of the FooBar2000 SDK when compiling your components, and also use the latest C runtime libraries (MSVCR80.DLL).

Older versions contains lots of bugs obviously.

I would also love if we could have the background of the toolbars semi-transparent like the Explorer in Windows Vista has (The Aero Glass effect). Currently this is only visible on the non-client parts of th e FooBar2000 window.

As for the Windows Sidebar support I'm sure that will be added via some 3rd party plugin, or maybe those Winamp fans will make a Sidebar component first which will be usable for FooBar2000 as well via the Winamp API emulator (foo_winamp_spam).

Those looking for a gadget that controls foobar
I came across this

Bit buggy but it works, requires Winamp spam since its for Winamp.
It needs a path to Winamp but that's only for executing the application
Title doesn't scroll.
Early stages.

The link to Codeproject provides very good documentation on how this gadget works and how gadgets are made.
Intresting read!

I made one using the COM automation server, but it looks like sh*t and lacks some features laugh.gif
I was planning on making one using the managedwrapper from foo_title but unfortunatly im not that good at coding sad.gif (not sure if it's possible but worth a try)
If we put our heads together we'll be able to have a gadget in no time smile.gif

There's no need to rely on winamp API emulation... wink.gif

Mine works perfectly with Vista Ultimate from day one. Now I have completely switch over it. M$ has done a great job at improving the UI aspect. About security we will need more time to see. I hate to admit it but I like the new Windows lol.
