Full Version: EAC Access Violation - same old story?!

Hi,

I remember going through this last year when I had v.93b, and I can't for the life of me remember how I fixed it.

Deleted that version (hadn't backed it up...) during a mass update/cleanup today, tried to install v94b, and am getting the infamous "Unhandled Exception at 01412E52 ->Access Violation" evey time.

Have tried:
Installing all current versions, both with zip files and installer, older versions, no joy....

Googled like mad - no joy.

Followed advice here, no joy. Removed every codec possible, nothing.

Any help appreciated - I really don't want to spend another whole day installing this, I'm not convinced it's worth it (to be fair, had 15 months glitchless use, but this hurdle is a bugger).

OS - XP SP2. Thanks in advance?!

A shot in the dark: go into the registry and remove all of the EAC-specific registry entries in this subtree:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\AWSoftware\EAC

Reboot, then try launching EAC

As always, using regedit can be dangerous.

Edit: Ah, I see you tried the remove-registry entries thing already. Rats.

I've experienced this myself and did exactly what brendan said though I don't think there's any need to reboot.

Thanks guys.

Tried installing again and regediting again, still nothing... Also uninstalled winamp and all plugins.

WISH I could remember what I did last time!!

Far be it from me to be critical, but this seems a common problem - without sounding (over) peevish and/or ungrateful, I hoped it'd have been sorted by now.

Edit - error code was different though - 1000E426.

Well, this is a good day.... tried installing CDex out of desperation, but ended up writing to Mr. Gates, who thinks it's a LAME thing.... tried the usual fixes, nowt.

I'm going to cry crying.gif . Will try a system restore, and see if I can rip with Winamp.

I didn't delete anything important during my tidy-up, I'm sure, but I must have done something wrong since everything's FUBAR..

Any one else had problems with both??

It could possibly be EAC can't find an installed ASPI driver, so give it another go by dumping Nero's ASPI Library into the same folder as eac.exe then run EAC.

Thanks, but tried that earlier . sad.gif ..

Double-checked that I didn't uninstall the ASPI, remember having trouble with that last year when I first installed.

Got LAME and FLAC in winAmp, I'll stick with it. I'd already ripped my old/scratched stuff with EAC, I don't think I'll notice too much/ if any SQ difference on a DAP (primary use).

Love to try installing again when I've more time - I'm not very technical, but I took care and did my homework here, and I'm stumped.

JOOTT, I guess (can't find a smiley for shrugging shoulders).

Thanks everyone for trying, much appreciated.

Hmm, if it's an ASPI issue, perhaps try creating a file called "eac-to-spti.reg" using notepad and place this in the file:

CODE

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\AWSoftware\EAC\Extraction Options]
"UseNativeSCSIInterface"=hex:ff
"UseASAPISCSIInterface"=hex:00

Save it, then double click on the file to merge the registry change into your registry.

PS - another shot in the dark: remove all the cd/dvd devices and the IDE controllers from your Device Manager, then reboot, and let it reinstall them. Whatever it doesn't find, use the add new hardware control panel to fix.

Thanks Brendan, will give it a try when I get home.

Actually dreamt about EAC last night - how sad.... But not gonna give up just yet!

Hi again,

Brendan's suggestions didn't work, I'm afraid sad.gif .

What is REALLY bugging me now is that I can't run EAC, can't run CDex (wasn't very precise before, it crashes on opening every time, and Big Bill says it's a LAME problem, and he'll write to them..), but have no trouble ripping (FLAC and/ or LAME mp3 as appropriate) with:

Winamp
Foobar
Audiograbber
winFLAC
RazorLAME

If anyone is as mystified as me, or interested, or likes a challenge, I'll post a full spec and log of my system this evening.

Unless I've missed something, I can't find anything comparable, either here or other fora.

Edit - forgot I tried Jetaudio, also no probs there.

Have you tried updating your drivers, most importantly, the motherboard ones? Get the official drivers for your board and don't rely on XPs own.

I suspect there's either a recently-borked (or recently-removed!) DLL in the Windows folder causing the problem. Not a lot of ideas left.

There are programs out there that can attach to processes and monitor what they are trying to load. Perhaps one of those would help?

Lorimer Clarke
Evereux - Thanks, tried that, no go.

Brendan - Probably right, especially in lieu of the same problem last year.

What programs are you referring to? Apart from nearing the end of my tether, I'm at the outskirts of my tech knowledge, not a long trip... Thanks if you can recommend such a program

I'll have to get back to you on the exact product I used a few weeks back on another system, but a quick check over at sysinternals.com indicates this new utility might be helpful:

Bad news - ran Brendan's suggestion, told me my wnaspi.dll was out of date - me confused about the differences between that that and winaspi32.dll. Tried to install it via Adaptec (no link available for soon obvious reasons), HUGE crash. Re-started, virused. All, every single file. Due to me being a tosser, hadn't backed up, lost everything except media files. Lost my "legal" software, all e-mail, bookmarks ergo no receipts available (btw, Norton's customer service is a joke), and obviously my alternatively sourced stuff....

Good news - reinstalled XP via disk, then tried EAC again - worked like a dream.... Paid the price though.

So, problem sorted, and a shitload of new ones to begin with... husband home for a few days, and he's bitching on other fora much, much more than me. Whinger....

Ripping like crazy, but have been forbidden to do any t***ent stuff yet.

Thanks again everyone - was told you guys were scathing to noobs, happy to spread the word that thats crap.

Cognac time.

Edit - for husband, read wife, or draw your own conclusions - gender issues and cognac.

Seriously, I didn't dare ask some of my dumb questions here - acknowledging ignorance is one thing, trying one's best and getting help is completely different. I can't thank everyone enough.
bhoar
Er, sorry, that wasn't the exact sequence of events I was hoping for. sad.gif

At least you were prepared (re: cognac). smile.gif
