Greetings!
This is my first ever post here! Anyway, on to the “problem”:
I have a motherboard (ABIT IS7-E) with integrated Realtek ALC650 audio, with optical SPDIF in/out. Would it be possible to connect the SPDIF-out to the receiver and the receiver’s optical-out to the SPDIF-in of the ALC650 in order to reduce jitter by slaving the ALC650 to the DAC clock in the receiver (Marantz SR5300)? While the data sheet of the ALC650 mentions the possibility to use an external clock, I can’t find any mention of it in the Realtek’s control panel (ver. 3.94; Win XP/SP1), although one SPDIF output option is labelled “SPDIF-in to SPDIF-out pass through mode”. I haven’t tried connecting yet since I don’t have any TOSLINK cables.
(I’m mostly interested to see if this works from a technical point of view – I also have a M-Audio Revo 7.1 that gracefully manages AC3, DTS and bit-perfect PCM over SPDIF!)
