So I'm pretty much stuck with this laptop I'm at right now. The DVD-drive is relatively slow and it's pretty loud when in use.

I've got a bunch of CDs I wanted to rip but I refuse to do it the old fashion way using this drive. I was thinking; maybe I can make a CD image of the Audio CD, mount it and rip the songs that way. So I tried it, but for some reason some of the CRCs (the ones I get when ripping from the original CD and the ones from the CD image) don't match. Any hints on why this didn't work? Different image formats don't do no good either.

Well, when you make a CD image, you're just ripping the entire CD to one file. Ripping your rip seems a little pointless to me.

Drives do NOT attempt to copy audio CDs bit-perfectly, that's why we have the whole concept of secure ripping. This goes for track-by-track ripping or whole-CD "image" ripping.

As I stated in my post, the laptops DVD drive is slow and loud. Ripping secure FLACs puts too much strain on the drive, takes too much time and sounds too much.

Thats why I want to create an image first, mount it and use it as my source in EAC when ripping.

I managed to find some more information on this subject and it seems like there aren't any secure CD > image rippers. I guess I need a new computer. sad.gif

Audio data bit-perfect cds -> image dont exist, audio is way different than data cds. I suggest you use a desktop computer to rip your cds to FLACs and just transfer the FLACs over to your laptop, if possible. Or you could just rip audio cds with your laptop when you're busy doing something else, so it wont bother you if its loud.

BTW: I have 2 different laptops here and both of them are really noisy when reading any CDs, one of them is an iBook (with a combo drive) and the other I have is a new sony vaio with a dvd burner in it.

If you can use EAC and you don't want to create FLAC online, why not to "Copy Image & Create CUE Sheet" and then "Uncompressed"? You will get securely ripped image of your CD. BTW you can also limit drive speed in EAC, so ripping will be at least less noisy.
What does it mean slow drive for you? My laptop drive can rip at the end of CD with 12x.

Thanks for the answers, guys.

I'll look deeper into that one, but I think getting me a new Desktop or an external reader is the easiest way to go.
