Full Version: FLAC in realtime

Hello there

Can FLAC be used in realtime audio compression? Does any one has the experience of using the FLAC libraries in compressing audio files in real time. So far I have used FLAC in compressing static raw audio files. Since FLAC option allows only static file as input.

It may be required to modify the source to accept audio data in buffers (array of binary data) for real time application.

Any hint is welcomed. Thanks in advance.

yes, depending of course on the input rate and the processing power of the device. there are devices doing real-time FLAC encoding.

there is a library libFLAC which does this, that is what the command-line program flac uses to do the encoding and decoding.
