Although I know there are lots of posts about this topic around here I just decided to start this one, because I think you could help me much better:

I have to synchronize the music collection of all people here in our flat, and therefore I would like to do the following things:

Use the foobar cddb component in order to tag the albums AND make a comment field (sth like "CDDB tagged on XX-XX-XXXX")
(-> My problem: how is this possible with foobar?)
Then I'd like to use the Masstagger tool in order to write all these albums in an structure like ROOT/Music/Album Artist/Album/Tracknumber - Artist (if "Various Artists" Album) - Title.mp3
(-> My Problem: What happens if Albums are existing twice? And what formatting string shall I use?)

Thanks in advance!

Give this a go:

CODE
/$if2(%album artist%,unknown artist)/$if2(%album%,unknown album)/[%traclnumber% -] $if($stricmp(%album artist%,'various'),%artist% -,) %title%

other options inserting:
CODE
['('%date%')']

in front of the album section will also add teh year in brackets for chronological order biggrin.gif

Thanks so far.

Just another point to comsider - I'd like to donwload album covers too.
-> My Problem is - can I download them while tagging and, if so, how do I copy them on renaming the files?

Maybe try MusicBrainz Tagger - I used it when I first organized the collection of music me and my friends have.

I've just seen that with foobar's cddb tagger (foobar v0.9.4.1) I can't change the tags in the CDDB dialog. Am I wrong that this was possible with Messer's component in 0.8.3?

EDIT: I've just found TheGodfather, works fine so far. but how can I easily add Covers to the album-dirs? An automatic tool would be cool.
