crying.gif OK, I set up EAC w/Lame and have selected MP3 ICON (ACTION\Copy Selected Tracks w/compression). Everything works great!

...except I cannot find the mp3 files anywhere. They are successfully created along with the .wav files, and I can see them from within EAC.

But when I look in the default directory I set up under EAC OPTIONS, I can only find the .wav files.

If I try to 'select and copy files w/compression' again, I get a message that the file already exists - do I want to replace it? Even if I do, there is still no sign of the mp3 files outside of the EAC window.

I have searched all Hard drives on my PC for one of the song titles, and only the .wav file is located.

YIKES! I am so close yet so far. Can anyone reveal what silly overisght I have made? The mp3 files in EAC show the file sizes for each song, and they are appropriately smaller than the .wav files. Also, the log shows everything was successful.

So where are my mp3 files????

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer.

(I am feeling very stupid)

- how long does the encoding process take when the wavs are encoded to mp3?
- what are your parameter settings in EAC? Did you select "user defined encoder"?
- Do you use Lame.exe or Lame.dll?

Each song took a minute or more. I didn't pay too much attention when I saw they were working.

I selected 'Use external program for compression' and specified my path for lame.exe (C:\Program Files\Lame\lame.exe).

"Additional command line options" are:
%l--alt-preset 128%l%h--alt-preset standard%h %s %d

(Thanks for your interest and help)

Are you sure these are WAVE files? What sort of filesize are we talking?

Is it possible that you have "Hide extension for known filetypes" selected and these are actually MP3 files?

I wonder whether, through some poor settings, your files are being called "<name>.wav.mp3" (which is what LAME will do if not given a destination), and that you are seeing "<name>.wav" even though the file is actually an MP3.

I don't think so. Both wav and mp3 files show up in the EAC window with different sizes.

For example, in the EAC window I see:

Title :: Track :: Size :: Compr. Siz :: Read CRC
Now I Got The Blues :: 01 :: 27.03MB :: 3.76MB :: CBDAB66
Don't Ration My Love :: 02 :: 28.03MB :: 3.90MB :: C549A5C1

(Note that for sake of brevity I've left out some columns, e.g. Start, Length, Gap, Test CRC and Pre-Emphasis)

Then, in my Windows Explorer I see, in the default directory for EAC files:

(01) Now I Got The Blues - Memphis Slim - Rockin' This House (Chicago Blues Piano 1945-53) - Disc A (Memphis Slim, 1946-48).wav 27,682KB
(2) Don't Ration My love - Memphis Slim - Rockin' This House (Chicago Blues Piano 1945-53) - Disc A (Memphis Slim, 1946-48).wav 28,707KB

If I search all of my hard drives by title (Search 'All or part of the file name'for 'Now I Got The Blues', and look in all local drives), I only find the .wav file in the expected directory. No .mp3.

Thanks again for your intersest and help in trying to figure this out.

check these things in the compression settings window:

A) that you have the "use external program for compression" (most probably true, but just in case)

B) that you have .mp3 as extension in the box below "user defined encoder"

C) if you have (or havent) delete wav after compression.

D) enable the "check for external programs return code".

Try again and let's see if you get something different this time.

Thanks, JAZ. That did it. Although I had "use external program for compression" checked, the default 'Parameter passing scheme' selection was "LAME MP3 Encoder". I changed that to "user defined encoder".

Also, "check for external programs return code" was not checked, so I checked that.

After that, when I ran EAC I saw the black DOS window appear for the mp3 compression (I am working in Windows XP Pro) and when it was done (about 1 hr for 18 songs) I had both .wav and .mp3 files.

THANKS TO ALL OF YOU FOR YOUR HELP!
