It's supposed to be written automatically. You're not trying to use the dll with EAC are you? You won't get the right result if you are.

I was actually using both 3.11 exe and 2.39 exe as well as the dll with cdex. I haven't been able to detect a lame tag with any of these files.

the option for writing lame-tags is: -lametag on

Switch worked as expected thanks S_O. Tag did not. I expected to be able to read the switches I used in gogo, but rather it only made encspot show lame 3.92 as the encoder, rather than gogo 3.11 with a lame header containing the switches used.

Lame rox. A Xing header for bitrate and frames and such plus a Lame tag for the switches and such used.
