Hello,

I want encode my Mp3 to Ogg files and know the best method (software) to do that.

I have try Ogg Encoder Decoder v.1.2.6b, it's look fine but maybe there something better and free ? tongue.gif

Thx for your help !

Are you hoping to get higher quality out of your files by doing this?

You won't. You'll actually audibly decrease the quality of your files, as transcoding or re-encoding between lossy formats always does.

Do yourself a favour and re-rip your files from the original CDs, using EAC and OggEnc. (It's a little complicated to set up for the first time, just post again if you need help.)

If you still want to transcode (again, I'd strongly recommend not doing so), you could use xcLAME.

All of those programs are free. You'll find that most commercial software in this category is absolute crap and not worth spending a Euro on (except for programs like Cooledit of course).

@valek: there is no reason to do that, do a search on 'transcoding'.

there could be a super_short_faq at the front page of ha, so far:

1. transcoding is bad?
2. whats up with lame and recommended settings?
3. BLT (blind listening tests)?
4. ...
5. ...

Merry xmas to all and tnx to Peter for the great player! biggrin.gif

Hello Valek, don't worry about the audiophiles.

1) The software you're looking for is called dMC.
2) You can get it from www.dbpoweramp.com
3) dMC is very easy to use, it's free and it can preserve filenames and tags.
4) Initially, it only supports MP3 and WAV, but to add support for additional formats like Ogg Vorbis, go to their Codec page.
5) I use Q1 (80 kbit), but that's just my taste.
6) Merry Christmas.
