Is there any way to stream HE-AAC using Nero Digital? Oddcast and Shoutcast only support Winamp's CT AAC (to my knowledge), and I'd much rather use ND, since it sounds better. I'd also like to be able to do it with foobar2000 or Winamp as the source client.

Yes, that is also my question. How can you use the Nero AAC encoder to stream AAC streams over the internet (shoutcast, icecast, oddcast)?

At the moment you can use faac or Winamp's encoder only. That has the following disadvantages aside the better sound quality of the Nero encoder:

1- faac isn't a HE-AAC encoder so the low bitrates do not sound good
2- faac is even at 128kbps and above not as good as the itunes / Nero encoder

3- The Winamp encoder is HE-AAC only, encoding streams in LC-AAC is impossible. At higher bitrates at 128kbps and above one should use LC-AAC because of the better sound quality and mimimal overhead compares to HE-AAC. But that is impossible with the Winamp encoder. Also you will never ever get transparency with the Winamp encoder even at the highest possible bitrate because of the use of sbr even at highest bitrates.
-4- The Winamp encoder will never allow you to use iTunes to listen to AAC streams as iTunes doesn't support HE-AAC.

These are a lot of reasons to try to use the Nero encoder with streaming servers. Any idea how to do that?

That isn't true, winamp AAC fully support LC-AAC.

Aslo you can use HE-AAC High aka High Bitrate Encoder, to force sbr to operate above 14khz you should get trasparency at higher bitrates, even HE-AAC can reach trasparency, but not needed, because only uses more processor time at decoding.

Either they limited the options in the lastest winamp (5.33), or even when LC-AAC is possible for ripping, it is not available for shoutcasting (nor vorbis or any other format).
Also, the Hight Bitrate Encoder now tells you that you need Winamp Pro. (They forgot to change the message, and says that you need it for mp3, when selecting it.)

I just added an AAC LC option to our dsp_sc tool. As soon as it gets out of QA I'll post it here smile.gif

Note that shoutcast YP will reject you (only accepts audio/mp3 and audio/aacp as types)

Only current way might be to pre-encode and use ezstream. (at least I think it supports aac... but don't quote me on that) I don't know of any live-encoding solutions.
