According to http://www.mpeg.org/MPEG/DVD/Book_B/Audio.html, dvd-video allows a video DVD to hold 5.1 channel LPCM audio at 48khz using 16, 20 and 24 bits. I have authored such a disk using LPLEX. Does anyone know of a DVD video player that has the necessary DACs (6 channel, or 3 stereo DACs) to play this, or is a DVD audio player the only way to play such a disk?

If itīs part of the standard, any player will play the stream.
Unlike, letīs say, DTS wich is not mandatory, but opcional, in DVD-Video.

Cheers.

Well my player for sure only plays stereo LPCM and not the 6 channels. The extra four channels are just ignored. Handles 6 channel DTS fine though.
