Full Version: Does not v. 0.9.4.2 support Monkeys Audio .ape?

My copy of v.0.9.2 suddenly stopped transmitting sound. I spoke to a tech at M-Audio and he reviewed the settings of my sound card, which were OK; I am able to play MS selections in WMP, so the problem seems to be in v.0.9.2. I thought I might download v.0.9.4.2 but it doesn't seem to support Monkeys Audio .ape lossless compression app.

If I download (if it's available) and install 9.2, must I also follow these instructions? --"To reinstall Foobar2000 v.0.9.2, download it and then download this:

http://foobar2000.org/components/foo_input_monkey.zip

and copy the included dll file, after stripping off the folder, to foobar2000's COMPONENTS folder. Open Foobar, go to File, Preferences, then to File Types, and then check mark "Directory context menus"."

From whence they came is a mystery.

Thanks for any suggestions. Bob

The installation instruction is alright. More info please.

Is "monkeys audio decoder 2.1.1" loaded (Preferences - components)?

So your fb2k does not play at all? Did you choose the correct output at "preferences - playback - output"?

Keep 0.9.4.2 installed and get the Monkey's Audio decoder component from the optional components page. Note that the components linked there require at least foobar2000 0.9.3.

Thanks to both of you for your suggestions. I installed 9.4.2 as well as the Monkey's Audio decoder component from the optional components page. I extracted the .dll and copied it into the Foobar components folder. I checked that in Foobar's Preferences/Playback/Output was correct: M-Audio DiO S/PDIF. It had previously been on Main Sound Card Output or some such, but neither of these settings enabled Foobar to support Monkey's Audio. I restarted the computer after each of these changes.

Any suggestions?

i.e. What about other formats? And do you get errors in the console upon opening Monkey's Audio files, does the seekbar move, etc.?

That should make foobar support monkey audio if you've done exactly as what you said. So I don't understand the part below because if you messed up something in Preferences/Playback/Output then the most likely outcome is you won't hear any sound at all from foobar.

I don't have your sound card so I'm not so sure but how does your audio equipment connect to your sound card, is it through SPDIF. If not then you should chose Primary Sound Driver as output device. Or even if you actually use SPDIF then have you try normal analog output using Primary Sound Driver.

As to other formats, tuner in my receiver works, and in WMP I was able to play some MS dreck in 8.3. However, when I played something from my standard files marked with the Foobar icon, it would seem to play with the seekbar and meter moving, but with no sound emitting.

Now, with the installation of 9.4.2 the music files in Windows Explorer show up with a Monkey's icon instead of the Foobar icon, as had always been the case previously.

The mystery deepens. Just went back to try it again and inadvertantly discovered that I could play separate files, despite they're having the Monkey's icon, in Foobar. However, I was still not able to play an entire record, from its folder, because a right click to access the menu did not provide a way to play or enqueue in Foobar, as it did successfully when I right-clicked a file, or selected a group of files to play in Foobar.

As I mentioned, I had a tech from M-Audio check out all of my settings. None was amiss. The connection from computer to receiver is via S/PDIF. As I mentioned, I had tried it both through S/PDIF, and before that, thru Primary Sound Drive. Neither brought forth sound. Additional info in the other post I just made.

So, if I understand you correctly, the actual issue is that you do not have context menus setup the way you want in Windows, but the files themselves play correctly?

What happens if you go to the file types menu in the foobar options and enable context menus for APE files?

I haven't been able to find Options in Foobar; where are they? And Preferences does not have a file types menu.

I think he means:

Preferences -> File Types -> select the APE / MAC.

Thanks so much to each of you for the contributions you made to the solution of my problem. I just turned on Bach's magnificent Christmas Oratorio and am delighting in it. Later, one of my recordings of the Messiah.

A loving and happy Christmas and New Year to all of you.
