Mungos
some continous party mix (6 hours long) was recorded on pc with Sound Forge 7.0
and saved like mp3 file 256kbps quality
but size of mp3 file is 3.75GB
its seems like that file actually is in wav format, but extension is mp3

cant play this mp3 file even re-open with Sound Forge, some errors is shown like 'corrupted' or 'format not recognized'

can anyone help with this file?

thanks!

6hours, 16bit, 44.1kHz, ~3,750,000kB? That's WAV

Renaming the extension might solve the problem.

Isn't there a limitation on the maximum size of a wave file?
darky
You're riht greynol. WAV files can't exceed the size of 2GiB.
@Mungos: Try this program http://www.fmjsoft.com/anytime.html I guess Sound Forge recorded your WAV files as W64. If I'm right there might be slight chance of suceeding.

There are actually two limits, either 2 or 4 GB (source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WAV#Limitations). The Wikipedia entry also mentions that Sound Forge should be able to deal with even larger files.

n-Track Studio (my version, I haven't upgraded in some while) automatically breaks long recordings into 2Gig files which can be handled by most programs. It works without screwing up or losing anything in the process.

Splitting the .wav into several 2 Gig files should indeed be the best option for your recordings to be processible by most software. But don't forget using an audio codec and a decoder that both support gapless playback in such a case, since gapped playback of continous recordings can be quite annoying. In your format of choice's case, MP3, only LAME comes into question. Suitable players would be Winamp and foobar2000.
