Full Version: Audigy 4 Pro Recording Line 2/3 Level

Just replaced an SB Live! with a secondhand Audigy 4 Pro with no software. Downloaded latest drivers. Works fine. However I have low input levels using Line 2 (Guitar) and Line 3 (Tape Deck).

I record using Adobe Audition. With the SB Live! from the tape deck I could control the level using the mixer record level and set it to get peaks at around say -1dB.

With the Audigy, I suspect the mixer isn't wired in to ASIO since I've tried using the ASIO Line 2/3 and all the Mix inputs together with the appropriate setting in the mixer record, with no effect on the input level. (e.g I read on the Creative board that the Mix L input is "What U Hear". I set Mix L as the Audition input and WUH as the recording input but changing the mixer record level has no effect.)

Is there a way of setting the record level at all? Or do I just have to record with peaks at say 20dB and then amplify the signal using Audition's effects? (I don't want to use the Mic input.)

All help/advice gratefully received.
Mercurio
Asio support is one of the new features of Audition 2.0.
I don't use this version, but probably if you switch to the classic wdm drivers you solve your problem.

It is not strange that the mixer of windows doesn't affect asio record level, however I hope someone can tell us how exactly the mixer of windows works. (is it hardware or software?)

Cheers Mercurio.

I'm using Audition 2. In Set Hardware I have a choice of
1) Audition Windows Sound
2) Creative ASIO
3) SB Audigy 4 ASIO [D000]
4) SB Audigy 4 ASIO 24/96 [D000]

If I choose 4, I only get a choice of Line In 1 2 or 3.
If I choose 2 or 3, I get a choice of Line In 1, 2 or 3 plus Mix L, FL, RL, FC, RC, SL and SPDIF In L
If I choose 1, I get an error message:
"The audio input is not activated. Recording audio is not possible. Please check your input configuration."

How do I switch to the classic wdm drivers?

I've noticed Adobe Audition appears to ignore the recording side of the mixer. Perhaps thats an ASIO thing?

I don't have your hardware, the only thing I can suggest is to try to set 1 and reboot the system.

Btw, I'm just gathering some informations about how the windows mixer works. If the amplification is software, the best choice would be to record with the asio driver and then to normalize the sound with audition. Also with the asio driver you can get real 24bit/96khz without pain.

Maybe the volume level you get with asio is set for the maximum dynamic of the analog to digital converter. (=the best digital SNR)
