Full Version: iTunes Converting Apple Lossless to AAC

I have over 30G of Apple Lossless files that I have just imported from my own CDs using ITunes.

They are stored on a LaCie external HD which I plan to use to wirelessly stream music to my stereo via a Squeezebox.

Now, I know that I can transcode ALAC files in batches to MP3 using Itunes-LAME on my Mac because I've done it before , but my Mac G5 is dead or in need of surgery. (Hopefully the video card, possibly the mother board.)

How, in a Windows XP environment, using ITunes for Windows do I transcode (using the ALAC Files as the source) COPY them to a separate HD (in my PC) where ITunes is present into MP3 or AAC format? Just using ITunes (yes, I know the encoding will not be as good as with LAME). I would like to do it in one "super" batch.

Do I use the import function? It seems that wants me to identify one file at a time and there are about 1500 songs.

I'm desperate. I want to load these NEW AAC or MP3 (lossy) files onto my uncle's IPOD which I bought him for Christmas. Hurry, he's 81 years old and I don't want him to wait too long! Also, I have to leave here on Saturday and I want to get his IPOD working first.

Bless anyone that can help me here.
THANK YOU.

You can use foobar2000 and the ALAC component to transcode it into MP3. It might work. dbpoweramp also might be able to.

Or you can just use iTunes and convert the tracks to AAC. Load 'em all into your media library, select them all and use the convert to AAC option from the menu.
