Hello guys,
I just switched from WinAmp to foobar2000. Wonderful, fast app!
My only question/problem so far:
Some genre tags in the Album View of the Media Library are not displayed/recognized correctly, and I cannot seem to find the source of the problem.
Most MP3 Tags (I’m using ID3v2.3 / ID3v2.4) are recognized correctly, updates I make within foobar2000 and in another MP3 tagger are reflected correctly - but for circa 10% of my tracks, different data is shown.
E.g. one track from an album will appear under the genre "trip-hop", although the whole album has been tagged as "pop" (<- and this is what shows up in WinAmp, Windows Explorer with dbpowerAMP, MP3Tag etc.) - it’s just foobar2000 that thinks differently.
Since we are talking about thousands of songs, re-tagging within foobar2000 would take very long.
Any ideas?
I had this problem and it was caused by fb2k reading the ID3V1 tag in certain cases even though the id3v2 tag existed as well (and had different info). You can use winamp or mp3tag or id3-tagit to look at your files and see if the id3v1 and v2 tag info are different. In my case, I used id3-tagit to automatically copy all the id3v2 tags to the id3v1 tags. This made everything consistent in fb2k. I did this on about 40,000 files and it took maybe a few hours.
ps At the time I posted a question regarding why fb2k seemed to default to the ID3v1 tag when both existed and never received a response.

Great tip, great tool - it worked, thank you!
