i'd really like to switch to foobar, since i've heard a great deal of praise about it, but i dont want to straightaway until i've confirmed it is capable of the features winamp has, so can anyone tell me if they are present or if it is possible to get these features through plugins/addons.

1. Crossfading Playback
2. fadeout on pause
3. media keys (i have previous, play/pause, stop and next on my keyboard, im pretty sure it'd support it but i couldnt figure it out on vlc crying.gif )
4. itunes library import (or something that can share the library with itunes instead)
5. jump to file (including enqueue options) since i like to listen to all my files but make playlists impulsively. This is the main reason i stay with winamp.
6. a way to appear in the systray and not the taskbar
7. WLM support
8. a plugin that allows a change in tempo and pitch of mp3's
9. a plugin that is capable of making mp3's sound as good as with the dsp plugin for winamp called "enhancer 0.1.7"
10. mp4 video support, i've managed to tweak winamp to play these too.

thanks for any reply, i've installed foobar2000 before but it was really hard finding equivalent plugins to winamp. i'd rather not stay with winamp since the only program that eats more memory than it is firefox on this computer...

10. foobar2000 cannot play videos of any kind. Though if you just want to play the audio part of an MP4, that should work.

Queue Options are available, for further functions try the Queue Manager

6. a way to appear in the systray and not the taskbar
with Columns UI: File -> Preferences -> Diplay -> Colums UI -> Status bar/Sys Tray
otherwise: File -> Preferences -> Diplay -> Default User interface

WLM = something from MSN? Then maybe foo_msn?

8. a plugin that allows a change in tempo and pitch of mp3's
foo_dsp_soundtouch?(never used or tried this)

#10 is answered by foosion and I don't know anything to #4 and #9 best is to lurk around in the forum a bit and look here for various plugins: Wiki - Foobar2000 Components 0.9

I think nearly everything is possible with foobar wink.gif

thanks for the comments people, i found itunes multi-plugin which features a foobar2000 passthrough, does that mean i can play in itunes with foobar features?

big thanks to bimbel for the list+links!

does the queue manager only allow playback of a queue, or will it resume the rest of a playlist after the queue has finished?

By default the rest of playlist will be played after the queue finishes. However, chronial's queuemanager component offers a command in main menu to stop playback after queue.

To simulate the whole functionalty of winamp's JTFE plugin you need two plugins more:

1. foo_cwb_hooks: allows you to display the position inside the queue in playlist.
www.wiki.bowron.us

2. foosions databasesearch plugin: You can search (not only) the playlist for tracks that should be queued

right almost completely set, just having a few problems removing foobar from the taskbar (while leaving the window visible, like windowshade in winamp), and making the search database window popup with a specific key.

also, is there supposed to be a slight gap when skipping to the next track with the crossfader, its just that crossfading is supposed to be a type of gapless isnt it?

thanks q-stankovic for those plugins, everyone here is really helpful.

#1. I don't think you can do that with the current ColumnsUI version.

#2. From the crossfader plugin page -

"Regarding to the questions about gapless playback when pressing prev/next/play, there will be a small gap, because it is the limitation of a dsp. So for pause and stop, there will be no fading effect available."

foo_notaskbar.

PS: Though I've stopped using it. I'm having my foobar minimized almost all the time, so taskbar doesn't really matter.

Regarding making MP3s sound better like Enhancer, try foo_dsp_delta. A bunch of people just about crapped themselves after hearing how much they liked the "noise sharpening" feature of that plugin.

thanks, ill try the two plugins when i have the time biggrin.gif
