I have been encountering a slight problem with Lame 3.97 (final release) and EAC V0.95 beta 4. EAC will rip a CD to my hard drive just fine in the WAV format, then the Lame DOS window will come up and show the encoding progress. However, during the encoding of the mp3 file, Lame will temporarily pause as if my computer is loading a large program. This then causes slight pauses in my Lame mp3 tracks. I have disabled automatic updates in Windows, turned off my spyware and antivirus, and I have even booted my computer in safe mode just to make sure that nothing is running (I have even closed most programs running in the background). I still always get the same results. This pausing only occurs on about 1-2 songs per album but I have now discovered that I have to go back and listen to all of my music just to find these problematic tracks and re-rip them. I never noticed this before but it is really annoying.

My computer's specs are as follows:
Pentium M 2.0GHz
2GB DDR2 RAM
80GB 7200 RPM HD
NEC 12X DVD+-R/RW DL

Hi, not sure whats causing your problems kornchild, but I also have problems with EAC and lame. I find that the temporary wav and mp3 files dont always get deleated after the mp3 has been made. I have on average 3 temp files left per album. Any Ideas as to why this is?

Sounds like a performance issue caused by bad drivers or misconfiguration. Related to caching perhaps.

mattjfromwey: Its best you start a thread with your problem and not change the topic of someone elses.

Thanks for the help Trex. I downloaded the latest drivers for my system and it still did the same thing.

I found that the pausing was occurring because of some other software that was installed that I just didn't see running in the background. Nero's Media Indexing program was running in the background (it wasn't always showing up though). Every time a new mp3 file was created, Nero would take about 200MB of RAM and 45% of my processor to add the songs to its index. This is really the first time I have seen this pausing even though I had it installed Nero's software package before and ripped numerous CDs in the past.

My suggestion would simply be to encode the files AFTER ripping the CD, although this may take a little longer, it seems worth it. Simply rip the files to WAV, and use All2Lame to compress the files to mp3 using that.

Lemme know if that works.
Diow
Or You Can Slow down the priority of lame using in your comand line "--priority X"
X=1,2,3 OR 4, in the use of cpu less 1<2<3<4 more, it will afect a bit in the speed of encoding and if it works will take less time than extract track by track and after encode. You Can see more details in the guide "switchs" what came with lame.If it don't solve your problem go to EAC>EAC Options>Tools and verify if the option "On Extraction, starts compression queued in background" and uncheck it.

The problem was Nero not lame as #4 says.

Yeah. For some reason, Nero's Media Indexing program kept slipping by me. I would close everything and I guess it would just re-open itself. I disabled this feature during the installation of Nero 7.5. Now I am going to have to go back and see if I can disable this from starting up. It is bugging me but it is nice to know that the issue wasn't with Lame but with something else on my computer.
