I've been using MPC for about a month now, and the bulk of my encodings have a treble problem. I'ts hard to explain but it sounds like the treble is phasing(e.g the high hat phases with the vocals) , it happens about 2-3 times in a song but not too all the songs. the command line i was using is:
-insane -v -ms 0 -ltq fil -minSMR 0 -nmt 18 -tmn 30
(I use EAC to enocde so i can't get rid of the -insane part).
The music i listen to is mainly Punk/Metal so it does have a pretty harsh sound, One Track where is was really obvious was Bitter Sweet Symphony by The Verve.
All the music was normalized to 97% so i don't think it's clipping.
But when i added -cvd 0 switch to the command line i haven't heard the problem since. The only thing that worries me is the speed increase (from 14X to 18X) in the encoding process and the drop of about 15kbs on every tack. The switch is enabled by default so am i hurting the quality of my encodings ?

Thanks

My System is: athlon 1500xp, msi k7t266 pro, 512 DDR-ram, Terratec 24/96(RCA'ed to) marantz reciever(calbed to) JBL floorstanders(standing on carpet )biggrin.gif

Can you ABX the song with CVD? It just sounds a bit weird, because all that CVD does is that it increase quantization resolution for certain frequencies when it detects certain types of harmonics. That's why it sounds a bit weird that there would be a effect you describe. CVD to my understanding doesn't mess with masking(*) or anything like this, it just uses somewhat higher quantization resolution for certain area, nothing more.

(*) Meaning, it only uses less masking leading to higher quantization resolution. This should not lead to higher masking (lower resolution) in some other areas.
