Well after reading all the great info on this site, I have gotten WMP11 to play m4a's encoded in iTunes using their lossless format. I used the directshow filters from dsp-worx (http://dsp-worx.de/) and the tag WMPtagsupportextender from http://wmptagext.sourceforge.net/. WMP11 will find and play a file encoded using apple lossless but no matter what I do it wil not add any m4a song to the library. Does anyone have any ideas why not?

Thanks

Check out this WMP/MCE Lossless Guide at The L.A.B and see if there is anything from the guide that you havent done yet. I had to add my files using the Monitor Folders section in WMP then hit Refresh Now to get all of my lossless files to show up in WMP.

Thanks for the pointer. The problem was that I hadn't registered the WMPTagSupport.dll. Did that and followed the other steps in the site you pointed me to and WMP loaded the m4as to the Library. Now I just have that problem (which I have seen mentioned here and will research) of not being able to seek during playback of an mp4.

Thanks again

Hello:-)

Not sure if this should be a new posting (I've just discovered hydrogenaudio) but my problem seems to follow this thread. I've been using iTunes for my music for ages, and now have a new MP3 player as well as my iPod which is not an Apple, so therefore I can only add music to it either with the supplied Samsung software, which I prefer not to use, or WMP. I am running Win XP, all up to date, and WMP 11.

Unfortunately all my CD tracks have been added via iTunes and so are .m4a. WMP just won't pick them up in the library, even though I think I have done everything correcly as per the lossless guide. I've installed illiminable Ogg (0.71.0946) and then WMP TSE. I have registered the latter's dll file using the C> prompt, and got a message saying it installed successfully. I have associated all file types with WMP. I have checked the plug-in filter in WMP options/background. still all the m4a tracks are not shown in WMP library. I have tried using add files and selecting the music folder where all my music tracks are.

The m4a files will open with WMP if I right click them from Windows Explorer, but are silent.

Don't know if anyone can help out. The only thing I have noticed since I installed a new DVD drive is that the software wtih this (Nero Essentials) also installed something called Lame ACM MP3 codec. No idea what this is or if I need it or if it is interfering with anything!

Thanks

Alan
