Is there a program out there that can tag MP3s, using an Internet resource of some kind, using the MP3 filename as the query parameters?
I'd like to be able to tag a folder of individual MP3 tracks and populate the fields that I don't have the data for, such as year.
There are plenty of software players and taggers that can retreive data for
complete albums via freedb2 and/or other sources (foobar, mediamonkey, Mp3tag, etc.) by comparing the track/album lengths to those of CDs in the database. I don't think this is possible for individual tracks however.
Well, it's a bit difficult by that method.
But, if you already know what an individual song is, Windows Media Player has been able to download album art and metadata based on searching for Title info alone (you can also add Artist and Album to the search if you want to be more specific) since version 9 at the least. It's one of the player's best features (if not THE best) and yet ironically one of the most overlooked. WMP will then rename and organize the newly tagged files via user-defined format that you can change to your heart's content in the Options.
Again, this feature does not require the entire album and works perfectly on individual tracks.
