Full Version: Please recommend good PC monitors/speakers for £50-100

I really need to upgrade those terrible £5 Time speakers and am considering spending about £50-100 on a pair of half-decent computer or monitor speakers which will provide good sound reproduction and allow for decent mixing and mastering of home demos (nothing too fancy). What would knowledgeable HA members recommend?

I have considered the Edirol MA-15Ds but, knowing my complete lack of experience in the subject, there may be something much better available.

All comments are welcome!

Thanks for the reply; I'll look into them as well as the M-Audios mentioned by another member. Any more recommendations? cool.gif

I recommended recetnly the JBL Control One speakers to my girl freind.
really good sound, way better even than during comparison in HiFi shop, wehre all speakers were close each other on the shelf.
I mounted the JBLs of my gf in her living room into the corners, quite high near to the ceiling.
Very balanced sound, dynamic, even some bass there for such small speakers, probably because of the corner mounting.
We got 1 pair for 90 € Euro iirc.

btw. the goals of my gf were: speakers = small & cheap.
before she used a boombox, luckily, somehow, maybe through knowing me, she asked me soon after our 1st meeting, what it would cost to get a decent HiFi. maybe converted in her opionion by listening to my HiFi ?! smile.gif
In the end, I recommende dher the JBL Control Ones, 4 pieces, as she also bought a Kenwood 5100 receiver/amp so she can listen als dts CD, DVD, movies, and HiFi stereo/DPL2.
I see such a kenwood amp/receiver (ca. 150 € Euro) as good piece sound quality wise, for low money, together with the Control speakers a minimum money to get to listen to music smile.gif

that sounds like it would have an awful soundstage and almost zero depth.

weird, you make a full text quote, and conclude something about soundstage and depth, which is opposite to my listening and recomemndation. Those are indeed some surprising nice things about these speakers.
