Full Version: Some ideas for the Autoplaylist Manager

I have collected several ideas after thinking some time about the autoplaylist manager: Nothing really great but in the summary they could make foo_autoplaylist an universal tool for creating/managing playlists and searching. Here they are:

1. Creating a autoplaylist inside autoplaylist manager shouldn't create automatically a autoplaylist inside foobar. Nicer would be to have a list of presets from where autoplaylists can be created inside foobar. So once created you can delete autoplaylists without creating them again in autoplaylist manager because you have the presets. So you can display just what you need in moment

2. Not only autoplaylists but also normal (editable) playlists can be created.

3. -If some form of limitation should be introduced (fe: limit by 100 tracks) it would make sense to differentiate between population sort and display sort order.
-Great would be to have other opportunities of limitation: fe. Limit (Genre=4|Artist=3|Album=1|Title=2) what would mean: "just 4 genres, from each genre 3 artists, from each artist 1 album and from each album 1 track"

4. A be better way to create queries concerning timestamps (Last played,...)

Thanks for attention!

it annoys me that once u create a 2nd autoplaylist you cant go back and edit the 1st you have to retype it all again and override it. There should be a way for the playlist to remember the titleformatting.

I think possibility to use also the TAGZ language inside the filter would solve that.

What exactly are you thinking of?

The first argument of the HAS and IS operators can be a formatting expression. It is advised to enclose it in double quotes in that case to prevent confusing the query parser.

For example, to get all tracks with artist names longer than 8 characters, you could do:
CODE
"$iflonger(%artist%,8,1,)" IS 1

I did not know that!!

But how would i write a query that gives back f.e. all the tracks played yesterday? So that the autoplaylist shows me today the tracks played yesterday and tommorrow the tracks played today. I assume the real problem is that the autoplaylists only get refreshed on tag or database changes.

+1

There's no way to go back and modify the query of an autoplaylist, or at least none that I could find. There are queries I made weeks and months ago that I'd like to fine tune now but there's no way I can remember the specific query syntax I used. Possible feature improvement?

yes I also agree there is currently no way of editing your autoplaylists and that is a serious lack of functionality, I also suggest a history drop down box as well so it can help you remember.. for creating new apl's.

We were promised an updated version with the intended functionality but we never got it... I am still waiting patiently... also what about the ability to reverse sort the playlists as well..

its a great plugin but would be sooo much better with a little more functionality, I am sure you would all agree.

I also agree that presets would be great - ie last 50 played songs, most played songs, newest added to db (although this is something foobar needs to address itself properly in its db I believe - it can currently be achieved by using the hooks component but it feels like a hack, when something it added to the db it should be tagegd as first added or something, ie where each track has its own unique identity in the db and when the song gets moved/ updated so too does the db..

I agree!

If you are an old user of foobar you will recognize easily what i asked for in the first three ideas: the good old "Extended Playlist Generator". Its presets was useful for many scenarios.

To say it shortly: Autoplaylist Manager + Extended Playlist Generator = Universal tool for playlist creation/manipulation and viewing/searching media library.
