Is anyone out there working on a solution to push music to a squeezebox ? Slimserver is ok but there are many times when I want to load a flac file into foobar and play it through my Squeezebox. To do this via slimserver is a real bore involving tagging the file and re-scanning my music collection.

I'm wondering if there are alternatives to slimserver (other than Airport Express or the useless Roku Soundbridge). Squeezebox sounds better than all the other digital players because the digital signal is not distorted too badly by jitter and clocking problems, so it remains the best product in its class right now for quality hifi playback.

TIA

Neil

I donīt know of an alternative but when i want to play something immediately i just copy it to a folder (called 00_Test for being first in the list) an use the menue "browse music folder" that should be easy enough. No tagging or rescanning needed.

I tried that but I get 24 chopin preludes mingled in with everything else. Its not even sorted by 'date modified' :-(

Ok. If you have a naming sheme with track numbers in front it should work.
What about Tagging the files and copy it to its music folder. When you use "browse music folder" and select this directory it will get into the Slimserver database. At least you donīt need to rescan the whole library.

I never really understood why Slimdevices did not go for UPnP like everybody else in the industry and stuck with their own proprietary server software and protocol. Which is a real shame, because the Squeezebox is by far the best device of its kind.

I was under the strong impression that the slimserver software was distributed under the GPL? I guess you mean the devices firmware itself, which I guess are distributed in binary form? This is what you refer to as "proprietary server software and protocol"? What signifies the protocol used by Slimdevices?

you can do a lot more with slimserver than upnp. even the menus run on the server.

you could try looking through the plugins: http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.cgi?SlimServerPlugins
