I have a 2004 Ford F150 with the Pioneer 6 CD indash changer audiophile system. It is supposed to play mp3 discs and won't. I have made mp3 discs and they have played in every player I had, and now I feel as though I am an IDIOT........lol.
I have tried 3 different brand of discs, if i burn a regular audio CD it plays just fine, but when I insert a mp3 CD it says: " CD ROM DISC " , and promtly ejects it back to me !!!! GRRRRRRRRRR!!!
I have called Pioneer they say call ford cause it's factory deck, and ford says can't help it's out of warranty.
Any help or ideas would be very much appreciated.
Thanks in advance, Mike

Are your mp3's CBR or VBR? Some mp3 CD decks will only play CBR mp3's and can't do VBR mp3's. What program are you using to burn these mp3 CD's? If you are using a media jukebox (such as iTunes or Windows Media Player), then you should try using Nero as it has more ISO compliant modes to pick from.

I am not sure what CBR and VBR is, but I am using nero and is there another mode I can try?

When you rip your wavs to mp3 you choose a bitrate to them[128,160,192,224,256,320] or an quality resulting in different bitrates to the musics?

So, just to make this clear:
You are a "computer tech" who has been doing "this" for years, but you have absolutely no clue as to how to find out if your files are VBR or CBR, and in fact you have never even heard of these terms?
Try searching just a tad.

im wondering if maybe they didnt just market the cd player saying something along the lines of of 'plays cds burned from mp3s' meaning it plays cdrs (and maybe cdrws), but not actual mp3 data discs. this seems a tad outdated and even heinous, but hey, i wouldnt put it past any big company like this.
CBR (constant bitrate) - mp3 is encoded at a constant bit rate...meaning its uniform throughout the whole song how many 'bits' pass by at any second. this explanation is probably not totally accurate, but you can relate it to like a movie, which is constantly going by you at around 30 frames per second.
VBR (variable bitrate) - more advanced...it changes the bitrate depending on the audio. imagine a movie, and when it comes to a still shot, instead of passing 30 frames of the same picture by, it only passes one frame, at a slower speed. this means you can save resources and get the same effect.
again, its not a totally legit example, but if you've never heard of it before, that explanation might help. it gets a bit more complicated though.

Pull out the information on your Pioneer 6 CD indash changer audiophile system. Look it up on line or go through the manufacturers info. Make sure, just what you have in that Ford.

I have experience with the F150 mp3 players (actually several of them). It played my LAMEmp3 cd-rw with no problemo. It sounds like you got a bum player or you got sold something that wasn't what the salesman said it was. If it's out of warranty my advice would be to buy your own aftermarket player of your choice. At least from my experience you'll get better service than at a ford dealer. And the cost will most likely be the same or less than a dealer. Good Luck.

HEY I never said I knew everything, my mp3 discs allwayz worked just fine never had to know all the terms YA KNOW!! I have enough to KNOW!
So, get a life corban......I was asking for help and ideas not smart azz coments.......keep it to yourself next time, your wasting forum space!!
Thanks to all that did respond!
So, should I be using CD-R or CD-RW.........which will perform the best?
If you don't know about the terms or anything, then you don't really know at all. A few minutes of Googling would've informed you of what they are.
And don't replace the letter 's' with 'z', it makes you look retarded.

CD-R is a safer bet.
My guess is that you were sold something that IS NOT an MP3 player. If you can prove that, and you have documentation that states you paid for an MP3 player, then the warranty period is moot, as you were ripped off.
Edit: Have you tried burning an audio disc on CD-R to see if that plays?

try burning a disc with files in the root (ie not in a sub folder), and make sure they are all short file names.
edit:
and yes, use CD-R... cd-rw is not very compatible in my experience, and is very slow and prone to errors when it does work.

Good idea. The old 8.3 filename structure is about as safe and compatible as you can get.

HEY FIRON..........if I knew everything or claimed to do ya think I would be here asking, yet another that needs to GROW UP and quit wasting forum space!!!
Thanks again for the suggestions guys!
and yes I can play a regular audio CD that I burned also all my mp3 discs play everywhere else.
I checked with ford and they said I DO have a mp3 compatable deck as my owners manual states.
Maybee it is faulty.....like I said when I insert a mp3 disc it says: CD ROM DISC and ejects it.
It is 6 disc, so not the end of the world but the mp3 capability would be nice.
And I do use CD-R discs.
Thanks again guys!

the fact that it recognises a 'cd-rom' disc, and spits it out, to me says you do NOT have an mp3 capable deck.
dont believe everything they tell you, especially someone over the phone who might not even be listening to or understand what your problem is.
the simplest way to test it was already mentioned.
id say, burn 2 cds. one cd with very few mp3 files, all with filenames with 8 characters or less (not including the .mp3 extension), and put the files just on the disc. do not use any folders. see if that works.
then burn the same files on a disc within say one folder.
do either work? if it doesnt, you either:
a) have incompatible mp3s
b) have a deck that DOES not play mp3s
if you post the EXACT model of the disc changer, maybe someone else would be able to tell if this deck is mp3 compatible. of course, then, you could too ;].
good luck.
