Full Version: Gapless on iTunes but not iPod

So I've been trying to figure this out for awhile, but I just can't. I have some files which will play gaplessly in iTunes 7.0.2.16 but have slight gaps on my 5G iPod Video with firmware version 1.2.1. Most of my music has been ripped with EAC and encoded to FLAC and subsequently to mp3 using LAME. One current track I'm having trouble with is a live show I downloaded in FLAC format, and I subsequently decoded to WAV and then used iTunes to encode the WAVs to ALAC. Like I said, the files play gaplessly no problem in iTunes, but on the iPod there is a gap on some (not all) of the tracks. Does anyone else have any experience with this? Thanks.

You still want to try one last thing:

Rip a CD with iTunes 7 to apple lossless an see if it works. Otherwise you are as hopeless as I am. sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif

I have a black 4 Gbyte iPod nano from the "scratchy" generation and gapless doesn't work for me.

Yeah, I'd like to know more about this as well, as I am considering purchasing an iPod and I want to know where we currently stand regarding iPod gapless playback before I do.

Gapless playback only works on 5G iPod (with firmware update), 5.5G iPod, and 2G nano. Gapless playback does NOT work on 2G shuffle, 1G nano (the scratchy gen), nor older iPods.

I have a 5G iPod and 2G nano. Gapless works perfectly with Lame encoded MP3 (rip via EAC), iTunes7 encoded MP3, and iTunes7 encoded AAC. All ripped directly from CD.

irishcrazy2005: Are the gaps consistent? (ie. on a specific track?) Do you use the recommended lame version and setting? Another thing is to try encoding the tracks to AAC/MP3 within iTunes7.

I assume you've got Sound Check turned off, but thought I'd suggest that just in case.

That said, I've run into this problem as well (gapless through iTunes, millisecond gap on the iPod) on my 5.5G 80GB (firmware v.1.2.1), although the files in question were encoded in iTunes v.7.0.1.8 AAC from FLAC. I've been meaning to re-encode using iTunes v.7.0.2.16 to see if that made a difference (can't recall ever having a problem with files encoded with that version) but haven't gotten around to it yet.
