My Sony DVD drive is having trouble recognizing my latest batch of "plain silver" Taiyo Yuden CDRs - has anyone else had any trouble with recent stock?

I tested it with my older silver and gold TY CDRs and my Fuji TY CDRs and there was no problem. It couldn't be the burn because silver TYs that I received in two recent trades also have trouble being read. It usually takes a couple of tries to reinsert and then a long wait until it finally recognizes it. Other times it will recognize it right away, so I don't know what the problem is. Are they using a new dye formulation or something?

Nope but some drives aren't happy with some discs which can be annoying!

Maybe I'm a little OT, but I think you'd better try at cdfreaks' forums or similar, because Hydrogenaudio is mostly audio-related forum...

...btw, my suggestion is that you should try to update your driver's firmware downloading the latest version at sony website, usually new firmware solves a lot of problems with unrecognized media

I just got off the phone with Sony tech support and based on my DriveCheck results (media errors) and the the other info I gave them, they said that it appears to be just an issue with the drive being fussy about recognizing certain discs (my drive has trouble recognizing certain Rhino/WEA discs also). They said if my drive was truly failing, then I would be getting unsuccessful burns and rips, which I haven't. So it's probably something I just have to live with.
