After converting all of my 1.1.2 files to 1.1.3 with the batch file I am now interested in adding the album art that I have called folder.jpg to each album. The folder.jpg file resides in the album folder along with all of the flac files. Tag and Rename has a tool called "Add folder.jpg to Files Tag" that does just what I need it to. My questions are this...

1. I know some do not like using tagging programs like this to manipulate vorbis comments. I have about 26,000 files to do this to and I only want to do it if it is appropriate. Is there any problem now or down the road using this method?

2. Does Tag and Rename follow the guidelines for vorbis comments?

3. Assuming this works fine are there any programs that will convert the flac files to mp3 AND also copy over the album art to the ID3V2 tag? I currently use foobar 0.8.3 to convert my flac files to mp3 and it does not transfer over the album art.

I don't know how T&R does it but album art should not be put in comments. in 1.1.3 there is a special metadata block for it (the PICTURE block).

it would have been easier to import to the PICTURE block while converting, but you can still import it now with metaflac --import-picture-from

- added support for cover art in flac files (PICTURE METADATA BLOCK)

So... no reason to worry about adding cover art with Tag&Rename - it follows FLAC's guidelines

I tried using the picture block when I converted but was unsuccessful. I did some research and I thought I read somewhere that you couldn't do that when a flac file was the input file. Is this not correct? If I can, I will just run the batch over again. If I were to use metaflac is there any way to do this as a batch and do all of the files at once? Is there any way to tell if Tag & Rename put the picture in the correct metadata block?

Can you tell me what batch file you used to convert your files from 1.1.2 to 1.1.3? I need to do the same thing.

oh yeah that's fixed in CVS, will be in the upcoming 1.1.4 (which will also have compression and speed improvements) so maybe it would just be easier to wait for that.

I having trouble with metaflac importing picture into flac. I have the newest version of metaflac and flac 1.14 and still using flacattack. Flacattack and Metaflac did fine with
"--add-replay-gain" but when i change it to
"-import-picture-from= |image/jepg|e:\musicpic\Beatles--Please Please Me.jpg"
it never did a compression.
I must admit I still running win98SE and i suspect that is the problem, even though replay gain still works as it as for the last year or so.

With latest developer version of mp3tag, select all files, click the 'Action (Quick)' toolbar button and select 'Import cover from file'. Type folder.jpg as name.

Note that this may take a very long time if you didn't add a padding to fit the pictures in the flac files during encoding, as it will have to rewrite the entire files.

There's also a square cover art display below the metadata block on the left side of the MP3tag GUI. Right-clicking it allows you to embed the cover art by selecting a file of your choice from the disk. A quick test revealed that this way of including the art uses the PICTURE block instead of Vorbis Comments as well, since it doesn't work on regular Vorbis files, but only FLAC ones.

Thanks guys for the fast response. But I couldn't load the lasted MP3TAG. I had to use v2.32a and it don't have any import feature.
I going to get Windows XP in the near future and I can give it a run again. I will also be able to try REACT and from the talk on the forum that's the way to go.

I'm glad I found that thread, I was exactly in the OP's situation.

However I'm wondering if there's any drawback about images in FLAC files (more resources, compatibility, weigh...) ?
