Full Version: Audio engine priority when minimized

I noticed that when i minimize foobar to tray while it's playing an internet stream such as SOMA FM then do something just a bit more CPU intensive such as scrolling an editor window in an IDE, the audio skips.

I'm assuming the audio engine goes to lower priority when foobar is minimized. Could you please include a preference setting for audio engine priority when Minimized/Restored.

My CPU is a bit oldie now but it's no poosy. It should handle things like this, so it's not my CPU I'm sure.

The priority of the playback thread is unaffected by whether foobar2000 is in the foreground or not, as long as you keep the "Thread Priority" setting on the "Advanced" preferences page on the default value of 7. Graphic, network and audio operations depend on more than just your CPU, so the cause may be in your hardware or drivers. Does the skipping only happen with internet streams or also when playing files from the local harddisk?

Regarding CPU, I've used foobar200 for years on an Athlon Thunderbird at 1 GHz just fine, and it also works on weaker systems than that.

Yeah, only with internet streams, and only when minimized. All the things you mentioned are in order i assure you, so the only thing that made sense is that priority thing which you say isn't the case.

I dunno. I'll sniff it out a bit more, see if i can fix it.
